Investing In our Foundation Helps Keep Hearts Beating

The Michael Hughes Foundation is a registered Australian Charity and has certification as a social enterprises with Social Traders.

Our Foundation exists to create change with how we, as a community, respond to medical emergencies. We know through our own experiences that defibrillators alone do not save lives. Where it starts is a coordinated response which includes confident community bystanders who can recognise a cardiac arrest, CALL Triple Zero (000), PUSH on the chest using CPR and SHOCK using a public access defibrillator.

On the surface, these are simple steps, but strengthening the links between community efforts, Ambulance personnel and Hospitals takes a great deal of work and collaboration. Thankfully, we have strong relationships with key stakeholders such as Ambulance NSW, NSW Health, Council of Ambulance Authorities – Australasia, and GoodSAM.

The Foundation has been driving change through our core programs which have included:

  1. Creating Heart safe Communities locally for Melrose Park and within City of Parramatta
  2. Panel member of the NSW Health Expert Panel to Reduce Premature Cardiac Mortality
  3. Research Partner with Westmead Applied Research Centre
  4. Longstanding corporate partnerships including PAYCE and PCYC NSW.

To reach our vision, we sustain ourselves through various revenue streams including reinvesting profits from the sales of products and services. More than 50% of our overall income is driven through selling high quality first aid equipment and through the delivery of accredited first aid course – all of which is matched to our core mission – To Turn Bystanders into First Responders.

Why is this important for you to know?

The Michael Hughes Foundation requires financial support to ensure that we are here for the long term and to continue to focus on the projects that make a significant difference in saving lives.

By purchasing from us and referring our Foundation, you have confidence that our organisation continues to give back in a variety of ways:

  • Donating defibrillator packages to organisations in need
  • Delivering subsidised accredited training
  • Creating content for awareness raising activities (eg #Responder video series, MHF Life Magazine)
  • Covering costs associated with our advocacy work with Government
  • Implementing Heartsafe Community initiatives

Accredited First Aid Training

We offer a full range of accredited first aid courses, delivered nationally, to increase the education and skills of individuals for workplace qualifications as well as for personal interest.  Our courses can be delivered to a wide range of organisations with the same impact.

A key differential in the delivery of programs is that courses are delivered by medically trained and passionate trainers (many of whom are paramedics) and they deliver tailored, meaningful, and real-life content for participants.

All our courses comply with Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines and are delivered under the auspices of Healthcorp Pty Ltd RTO 91222. Healthcorp is the RTO issuing the qualifications.

I just completed my HLTAID003 Provide First Aid course. It was the best first aid training I have ever done. Charnan is a fantastic trainer with such a wealth of experience.

Since 2016, Stellar Learning has used Michael Hughes Foundation for all our first aid training. Our trainer Kevin is amazing… Not only does he do First Aid courses, he is a paramedic and very hands on. Kevin explains things in an easy manner and helps everyone throughout the course. I would recommend him and the Foundation to any business wanting to host a first aid course.

Thank you MHF! Your first aid and CPR training were fantastic. We love your presenters because they always make the training so interesting for our staff by sharing real life knowledge and experience. Keep up the great work.

The impact on each parent that has attended this course is immeasurable. The participants now have the skills to be able to stay calm and administer First Aid if faced with an emergency. This training has also enabled the participants to update skills for work or to help secure employment.
